What is Restorative Yoga?
It is a body-mind practice that focuses on physical, emotional and mental health. The practice combines physical exercise (asanas), mindfulness techniques, meditation, deep relaxation and breathing exercises to help us relax, relieve stress and optimally manage symptoms or diseases (often in consultation with another healthcare provider).
Allies in our practice:
- yoga blocks
- bolsters/ pillows
- wedges
- belts
- big/ small balls
- chair
Restorative Yoga, which consists of supported relaxation postures held for an extended period of time (usually about 5-10 minutes), provides the body and mind with space and time for healing, resting, and integrating. From a scientific point of view, Restorative Yoga allows the body’s parasympathetic nervous system to take over. The parasympathetic nervous system (unlike the sympathetic nervous system) is responsible for the functions of relaxation, digestion, tissue regeneration and healing. In other words, when we are relaxed, our body can perform all the self-healing processes needed in oreder to be able to function in our otherwise busy daily lives.
Enjoy the practice every Thursday at my place, 20:00-21:00.
Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) follows our practice.
